we went to Vizcaino for the bike race today ... it was nice and sunny but not too hot, due to a cool breeze all day long.  the way the boys went was long and really steep in places. there were bikes and bodies falling right and left. like i told some of the families, if there is no challenge, then the bikers wont enjoy it.  boring .

well, bocana beach bikers won 3 first places !!!

chueys son won. and i am so pleased about that !!  he didnt show up which was a shame. really a shame.
irmas son won and i am soooooooooooooooo happy about that !!!  she went :)))))) and so did her sister !!

and Cristian won - second time !!!

and the last one was Chino - a little shtunk  of a kid who just tears that road up. he rides his bike with the wind at his back and o a mission to WIN.  they called his dad and he may even buy his son a special bike so that he can get even better results.

Leo had a bad fall right at the beginning. Got the bike put together and sent him on but he must have crashed, the bike got irreparably bent.    i wd really rather not borrow bikes any more.

the one who sould also have gottem first place but someone stuck rocks int he middle of the way and he was in front and got all messed up with the route was Nacho. I am really not sure how this happened.  they did the route yesterday ?????  bizarre and horrible. the worst was that he was disqualified because he threw a hissy fit.  he slammed the helmet on the ground in fornt of everyone and ran to the side in tears.  Not good sportsmanship  altho at the time, none of us understood that he had been somehow set up to lose and crash ... who put rocks along the route ?????????????????????  all the others went around, so they knew how to go .... strange things ahappening .....

the day flew by

i worte emails to various people that i think will come thru for me in getting bikes  here before the mtn bike race on the 28th. i want all the boys to have good and fun bikes. i hope they win. need helmets as well and someone on bajanomad (thanks to Shari in Asuncion, i joined) suggested the segunda in ensenada. that is a very good suggestion !!

the situation in the states seem to be extremely dire. kim priebe wrote me that 2 of her friends are living in their cars. jeez. that is ridiculous.  ridiculously sad. shocking. sad. if she write back i want to see if we cant get some connections for jobs.  some companies are actually doing well. others are sinking.  i saw that trattoria acqua - a gorgeous italian restaurant i ate at many times - went bellyup and they were auctioning off the restarant ware. scary times my friends. scary times.

Nina wrote and the norwegian contingent is going to visit her. her husaband calls it the norwegian invasion !!  sooooooooooooooo soooooo funny !!!

Mom is in Rio. The consulate wrote and they rec'd payment but not the papers. what else is new ??? i asked Carol to mail them a week ago. slow on the uptake. really a shame.

is this gorgeous or what ???!!!

got up early and picked up sr romero to head over to san ignacio to see their medical clinic. it was a supreme disaapointment since it is an empty expensive bldg with nothing and no one in it. But she did give us ideas on how to become a non-profit, and I think this is what we need to do

however we did see san ignacio springs inn with the yurts and they are impressive. beautiful. and we fianlly met the owners Gary and Terry from Canada. Some of them are $150 a night - includes jacuzzi and beautiful view and a kayak for enjoyment.  people can swim in the lagoon - sounds mosquitoey to me - but the idea is romantic !!  we hear that Terry is an awesome cook  and that meals come out professionally and on time.  they also say they have a chamber of commerce and they split all the costs of advertising. smart people. i am glad that Ed Epifani wants us to do the same. i can't wait to get into business for reals (as the kids would say !!!)

First garage sale on the beach and the sea is so rough that the fishermen are not fishing...only the lobster guys are going  out. stayed for 2 hours. dols some. went to buy all the paint gear for Sunday so we can paint the old plant in preparation for the recycling center.

Pancho came over with some huge Portobello mushrooms, so I stuffed them and made a polish mushroom sauce for the pierrogi plus 2 salads and we all ate to our hearts contect

change of plans - we rae going to san diego earlier than planed. this way we can pick up all the tournament stuff ourselves, and we can go to Marek and Sarah's wedding. most importantly, Les seems too tired all the time and he went for an EKG. according to doctors here, he is fine. according to nurse practitioner in san diego, the machine is too old and she can't read it. better tog oa nd check everything out.  seems like we just got back. seems like a wste of time. but if les feels better going, we shall go. quality of life folks, quit the smoking early (if you are stupid enough to start), watch the weight and suger levels. keep fit. neither of us are taking home medals for any of the above - both do not exercise, both overweight and both used to smoke way back in the day. now we are paying for it.

on a more fun note: tomorrow is turkey day !!  since we were not here for xmas, we have an extra turkey and we are making the whole shebang !!  turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes and salad and homemade applesauce and we probably even have cranberry ...

the doctors are learning well. but I am mostly impressed with my little kids.  they are smart and speak so well !!!  even tho i am the teacher, i am very very very impressed with their level of comprehension. even the 6 year old can whip it out !!!  he is good ! turns out, little kids just have to hear it. their brains will figure out the rest. automatically. we overcorrect as adults. we censure ourselves. we want perfection right away. the little ones spit out the  incorrect and upon hearing the correct version, auto correct.

yesterday i did 2 portuguese english translations. one was about how Sweden is planting 4 trees for every one that it cuts for paper/furniture. so it has more forest area now than it did 100 years ago. i tell you  - what imostly noticed all over Europe is trees trees trees. everywhere trees. they are definitely taking care of their forests.

Haiti had an earthquake yesterday. horrible mess. death.  people and equipment and food is arriving but how do you get it form place to place when all the roads are impassable ??

Heard that Lynn got a job ... she in an attorney in Florida and it took her months to find one but she did it !!! so proud of her !!
